Design, has a collection of over 18,500 apparel items from around the world that can
inform and inspire contemporary designers. You don’t have to be a U student to use
this wonderful resource!
As part of MN Fall Fashion Weekend, join us on September 19th, 6 PM to learn how
GMD staff can help you explore the collection to enhance your design development.
Assistant curator Jean McElvain will present three examples to illustrate ways that
designers can use the collection as a point of departure. A combination of slides and
collection garments will be used in this program.
1. Dress from the 1920s will show how a particular era can inform designers.
2. The Little Black Dress will show how designers have interpreted the archetypal
dress, spanning many styles.
3. The designs of Bonnie Cashion will illustrate how studying the successful continuity
of a single designer can inform your work.
